Achieved. What a lovely looking cat. The face is in focus and all the details in its eyes and fur are sharp. For me the eyes get a bit lost with all the brightness in the rest of the image. The cat’s body and the blanket or whatever it is on the other side are quite light coloured and I find they are distracting me from the cat’s eyes which are in the darkest part of the image. The way the camera has gone close to the cat so that the cat fills the frame gives the subject prominence which I like. The clarity of the details in the face are really interesting in my view.

Honours. Lovely out of focus background, and look at all that pollen attached to the bees legs . Nice composition with the three flowers and the bee on the third, plus good exposure and colour. The touch of blue helps to balance all the pink. Just watch white borders are not too wide, as they can be very bright and take attention from the subject.

Achieved. I love a stormy sea with the waves crashing against the rocks. The lighting is good for straight out of the camera and for the time of the day that I think this image may have been recorded. I find a high viewpoint tends to diminish the perceived power of the waves and I recommend getting as close to the action as is safe to do so.

  • "RIVERTON WAVES" by DAVID WEIR; Grade: Acceptance
This is typical Riverton scenery. Nicely
caught but with the way you have taken it,
less of the sky would improve the scene.
Reducing the gamma and a slight increase
in brightness improves this image just the
way you have taken it. I like the
composition of the waves and the rocks all
placed well in the frame. You have waited
just enough to put the large wave nicely to
fill the otherwise empty area of the frame.

  • "MOUNTAIN POSY" by DAVID WEIR; Grade:Acceptance
We have a well presented group showing of the
daisy clump. The wide exposure range has been
handled well to show us all the detail needed for
identification. Well done.

  • "WAKATIPU DELIGHT" by DAVID WEIR; Grade: Merit.
A different view to most, nearing the top of the lake. I like this area in the late afternoon looking north when the sun can cast those delightful colours across the lake and the mountains. This view is quite impressive with the panoramic view and the inclusion of a small amount of beach allows us a standing point to look across to the hills. Reducing a bald sky is the right idea. If it contributes little, then don't include it in the image.

  • "Bamberg 14th Century Architecture" by DAVID WEIR; Grade: Highly Commended.
Here we have a view of the old Town Hall in Bamberg, Bavaria. Somewhat typical of the Bavarian style of building. This one is interesting as it placed on an island in the middle of the river. From the construction, it would appear that the piece on the right has been added to the building at a later date. The footing has been shaped to allow the river to flow past without damage to the supports under the original structure and yet the addition appears to be a 'clip on' construction. Good lighting found to show of the details here. Soft and yet sufficient shadow detail to add to the interest.

  • "ARROWTOWN" by DAVID WEIR; Grade: Highly Commended.
Beautiful reflections shown here in this image. Well exposed and depth of field the covering the whole scene. I do feel that there is too much surrounding material included in this scene, and a crop of the image provided a better frame of the reflections in the river without the clutter of some of the trees on the left and also with some of the sky being removed.
