    SSA_027_A MESSAGE.jpg

MERIT This is a well seen image. Placement of the mother and daughter is great. Personally, I would increase the exposure by about half a stop and increase the contrast by about 30%. While the doorway is on a lean the edge of the roof is level so it’s ok. This image says many things. It’s obviously in a fairly run-down part of town judging by the state of the wall and door. Someone obviously doesn’t like Americans!

  • SSA_097_ON FOOT.JPG

    SSA_097_ON FOOT.JPG

ACHIEVED I like the composition here with the placement of the door, window and drainpipe. Exposure is good. Personally, I feel that the woman is moving is distracting, especially as parts of her feet are sharp. I would have waited until her head was completely between the window and door and used a faster shutter speed. The set subject, but honestly this image gives no indication it is a travel picture.

  • SSN_123_TIME TRAVEL.jpg

    SSN_123_TIME TRAVEL.jpg

MERIT This is a nice holiday shot. Exposure isn’t bad but increasing the exposure by half a stop would give it a bit more punch. If you are using Lightroom, or similar processing software to process it is worth using the auto button to see what the software does to the image as in a majority of cases it will do a reasonable job from which you can then adjust. The verticals are receding in this image and this can easily be fixed in the transform module in Lightroom. A good attempt.

  • SSA_092_Nepal Peace Pegoda.jpg

    SSA_092_Nepal Peace Pegoda.jpg

NOT ACHIEVED Exposure is good here with all the mixed lighting which has the potential to create a nightmare. Personally, I would have changed the framing. I feel the image is unbalanced with more greenery and unnecessary stuff on the left. If you look at the image you are not positioned in the middle. I would have moved over to the right, so the handrail was in the centre. This I feel would have balanced thing better. Also, the buildings appear to be falling backwards and nowadays this can be fixed in Lightroom or photoshop easily! If you correct the verticals and crop some off the left so the distance between the edge and the sides of the steps are balanced, I feel that this would improve the image. Also, I would try to remove the handrail at the bottom of the image

  • SSB_071_TOURISTS POSING WITH STATUES,SINGAPORE.JPG

    SSB_071_TOURISTS POSING WITH STATUES,SINGAPORE.JPG

HONOURS This is a well seen image and different from the usual tourist record shot. I like the angle you have used here as opposed to being squarely on to the statues. Exposure is excellent, and the only thing I would do is add a little more contrast. Initially I thought about cropping the Ion Orchard sign at the top out and doing this would work in creating a wide image that enhances the shape of the statues. But maybe the sign is necessary?

  • SSB_095_MOSTAR.jpg

    SSB_095_MOSTAR.jpg

MERIT This is a nicely framed image. The arch closes the image well. A few adjustments will help improve things I feel. Using the auto button when processing will improve things, although I would maybe then darken the sky a bit more. You could also lighten the rocks in the bottom left corner.

  • SSSA_080_Monks_Waiting-in_Line _ Myanmar.jpg

    SSSA_080_Monks_Waiting-in_Line _ Myanmar.jpg

HONOURS I like what you have done here. I feel that this is an image that will work in either monochrome, or colour. The fact that you have darkened everything apart from the subject works well. This is excellent with nothing needed to improve it. Well done!

  • SSA_026_A Road Less Travelled.jpg

    SSA_026_A Road Less Travelled.jpg

NOT ACHIEVED I feel that the road is just incidental to the image here, being on the very right and leading out of the frame. In fact, I think you could crop the road out and not really lose anything. The white balance disturbs me. Was the sky and background really that colour? To me, it almost looks like you have the White Balance set to tungsten! Taking a custom White Balance reading off the sky makes a big improvement! I feel that this image could be improved if you could have moved so that the road lead into it instead of out of it!

  • SSB_021_ART GALLERY.jpg

    SSB_021_ART GALLERY.jpg

MERIT Another well seen image. I would increase exposure by a third of a stop and increase the contrast by about the same amount. I like the panoramic cropping to this image. Maybe you could have moved back to include all the painting on the right? If the subject is the paintings at the sides, then I feel that they need to be more prominent. My eye is drawn into the picture along the road towards the car and person in the background. There is nothing wrong with this, however I feel that then the title is wrong. Either way it’s a great picture.

  • SSB_118_TO SUA OPEN TRENCH .jpg

    SSB_118_TO SUA OPEN TRENCH .jpg

ACHIEVED To Sua Open Trench This is really a nice record shot of a place you have visited. Exposure is excellent. Personally, I would crop the bottom off this image to just below the round object in the water. This, I feel will give more attention to both the ladder and the shelter at the top of the image. I don’t feel that including the grass at the bottom of the image actually adds anything to it.

  • SSA_012_TAKING A BREAK.jpg

    SSA_012_TAKING A BREAK.jpg

HONOURS Well seen! The colours of both the fruit and the clothing make this image. Exposure is great and makes the colours stand out. The bowl of fruit on the left balances the image and is necessary. You could have possibly included all the bowl. The fact that you have caught the woman eyeing you somewhat suspiciously is great.

  • SSN_132_Holidays in QT 2019.jpg

    SSN_132_Holidays in QT 2019.jpg

HONOURS This is a well exposed image. I like the angle of the wash and the boat. The only thing that could be done differently would be to take the image as a vertical which would give more of the wash and tighten the composition. Well done.

  • SSA_064_Old Freezing Works - Tokomaru bay.jpg

    SSA_064_Old Freezing Works - Tokomaru bay.jpg

MERIT I love the shapes here. The fact that you have decided to convert this to black and white is excellent. I also like the fact that you have angled the camera up. Exposure is good, although I would increase the contrast a little. Well done.

  • SSN_111_MIRROR MIRROR.jpg

    SSN_111_MIRROR MIRROR.jpg

MERIT Good composition here with no cropping needed. Exposure is also excellent. The only thing I would do to this image is reduce the vibrance and saturation somewhat as I feel the colours are too punchy.
