A SHORT RIDE by ALISON METHERELL
GRADE : MERIT
One of the challenges of this type of photography is when to use blur to create the feeling of movement and when to aim for sharpness. This image is a little soft with the greatest sharpness on the officials rather than the rider and bull. This is something that could be adjusted in post processing, especially the sharpness of the bull and rider. Another way of creating a greater separation between the action i.e. the bull and rider and the background would be to crop some from the left and top of the image, especially that white banner. Finish the image off by either lightening the subjects (or darken the edges of the image) to keep all attention on the most important elements. The way the officials and spectators are watching the action is really good as it directs our attention to the same place.
