"HERE WE GO" by VAL POHIO; Grade: M
Great action shot - the blur throughout emphasises the movement, but the face is still sharp - well done - excellent depth of colour, although I'd like the base a bit darker.
"EARLY MORNING PAPATOWAI" by PHIL BLAKELY; Grade: A
Gentle image with terrific colour harmony - the marker is strongly placed on a third and the headland adds interest - I'd like a crop off top and bottom to make it a panorama.
"LIQUID" by LARA MOSS; Grade: H
This water is more leathery than liquid - balanced grouping of rocks adds a strong diagonal, which also adds energy - a little more light in the darkest areas would improve it.
"STORM APPROACHING ROXBURGH" by COLIN WALKINGTON; Grade: M
Beautiful strong panorama - the rain is on the third and the foreground slope adds movement - the light patch on the left could be darker.
"MEET BARRY" by JO BOYD; Grade: A
Well, hello Barry - I think this character could stand stronger lighting, to give more modelling to the face - eyes are above the centreline and they have good catchlights.
"QUEENSTOWN HILL AT SUNRISE" by SARAH SMITH; Grade: M
Very strong and dramatic lighting - just one thing, either clone out all the bitty white spots at the base, or crop some off and clone out the rest.
"DOUBLE FALLS" by PHIL GREEN; Grade: A
Although the water is lovely and smooth, it's a bit dull and could do with some light on it - while the composition is well balanced, the foreground is not as sharp as it should be.
"MARK" by SHAREE McBETH; Grade:
Good side lighting on Mark, and an excellent catchlight in the eye - however, the image is shades of grey without any real blacks or whites - it needs more punch.
"RILEY" by JASMINE SOWERBY; Grade: M
A delightful portrait - nice soft lighting but with good catchlights in the eyes - I like the fuzzy background, but it would be more balanced if you cropped some off the left.
"STAND TALL" by MIKYLA SCHNEIDER; Grade: M
Wonderful feeling of height - some of the shadows are a tad dense, but not too much so - top of the trunk is off to one side, which is good - rich colours.
"LUNCH IS SERVED" by COLIN KELLY; Grade: A
Great title - tractor on third, but I'd like it pointing more INTO the picture - as is, it tends to lead the eye out - however, the tractor is well balanced by the mass of birds.
"END OF DAYS FISHING" by JOHN HARRISON; Grade: A
This is a pleasant marine study, with good cross lighting - however, I think you've included too much water at the base - a crop, up to the black object on the right, would strengthen it.
"KAIKOURA SURF" by PETER BARBER; Grade: A
Good colour and lots of action - rock is well placed - wave is sharp and caught at its peak - I wish the top of it was included - great sparkle on the water.
"THE MAGIC OF MOTHER NATURE" by SANDRA DANN; Grade: A
The fungus is in just the right place and the lighting shows its form - unfortunately, the plane of focus is on the leaves, not the toadstool - those middle leaves are great.
"NORTHERN TERRITORY COLOUR PALLETE" by TAMSIN GORMAN; Grade: H
Wow! - great composition - great colour - great sharpness - the tree, by breaking the line of the rocks, connects the sky to the land - darker foreground gives a strong base.
"RED WARRIOR OF THE MATUARA" by MARTIN KOHN; Grade: H
Another wow! - the central composition is emphasized by the sudden zigzag of the red streak - wonderfully menacing background.
"URBAN RIDER" by EDDY LECOTEY; Grade: H
I love the treatment you've given this - so much clearly defined detail keeps the eye engaged - plenty of colour, but not harsh in your face colour - a no nonsense image.
"THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME" by CAROLINE GILLINGS; Grade: A
This is a lovely soft sunset and the boats balance each other - there's plenty of detail in the shadows and a nice recession of planes.
"ONE LEGGED CLIMBER FIGHTING GRAVITY" by GUILLAUME CHARTON; Grade: H
Although the sun is almost dead centre, it is balanced by the island and the climber - the sky and sea are both beautiful - rock on right seems to be just big enough to balance the island, without being too heavy.
"HIGH JUMPER" by YVONNE ASSIE; Grade: M
The action is caught almost at its peak - the athlete is large in the frame - the background would be better if it was blurred - however, jumper is against sky, so it's not messy.
"KIWI- KID NZ" by DANIELA SCHNEIDER; Grade: A
A wonderful vista with a great sky and good depth of colour - red kayak is near a third - side lighting would make the mountain pop - I may be wrong, but horizon is on a slope.
