"Lichfield Cathedral" by PETER BARBER; Grade: Merit.
This view is of the main entrance to this gothic cathedral. The building was begun in 1195 and took some 50 years for completion. I think that the photographer has done well to have captured this part of the building in, what could be called, flat lighting. In fact it is shadowless and to some extent lacking in depth because of this. However, in bright sunlight the main doors are dark in shadow and some detail is lost. I think I would have cropped off the base of the figures above the line over the door, as one can only wonder what we are missing in this part of this wonderful building.
